Psalm 9

Psalm 9

A Psalm of

David

Inspiration from verse 1

A

Devotional by Beth McLendon

David says

in

Psalm 9 verse 1:

will praise you, O Lord,

with

my whole heart;

I will tell of all your marvelous works.

NKJV

-

Note that

David said

with

My Whole Heart

-

Does God have your

Whole Heart?

God wants your whole heart.

Jesus said,

"Love the Lord your God

with all your heart

and with all your soul and with all your mind."

Matthew 22:37

Also see Deuteronomy 6:5

Psalm 9:1

shines out with devotion to God.

It shows David praising God

with his full attention.

David is not

 allowing any distractions.

David is totally in the moment with God.

David is

focusing fully on God.

Because we love God,

we try to live this life

continually

focusing on God.

But...

We need to remind ourselves daily.

-

The more we learn about how to focus on God

and allow him

to be on the throne of our heart,

the more mature we will become.

Focusing on God brings

more closeness with God.

God is the one who knows us fully and loves us fully.

Yes, that includes YOU.

For more about God's love - See our page on
 Psalm 139

The question is not about God's love

which is full and complete

but ...

Do WE Love God?

God says to us,

“And you will seek Me and find Me,

when you search for Me

with

all your heart.”

Jeremiah 29:13 NKJV

As a devoted Christian -

Our aim is

- Total Devotion -

To God

with

- nothing missing -

so

this is our goal and intentions.

When we fall down and mess up,

we get back up and try again!

So our

Proclamations to God

are

I WILL...

Praise God with my whole heart.

I WILL...

Love God with my whole heart.

I WILL...

Worship God with my whole heart.

I WILL...

Thank God with my whole heart.

And as the last part of

Psalm 9:1 says

I WILL...

tell of all your marvelous works.

-

The Bible teaches us to speak to others

about

the wonders of our God.

When we love HIM with our whole heart, we realize that

we need to share HIM with others.

I will praise You [God] with my whole heart.

Psalm 138:1

More about dedicating our Whole Heart

Psalm 111:1 NKJV talks about our "whole heart.'

It says:

Praise the Lord!

I will praise the Lord with my whole heart,

In the assembly

of the upright

and in

the congregation.

This verse reminds us that a

Dedicated Christian

will

gather

on the phone or in person

with upright believers of God

(upright = those who try to obey God)

and express praise to God.

Note:

Even if you cannot find a good church

at this time,

we can still get together with believers and

praise God together

in person or by phone.

Psalm 119:34 KJV reminds us

that we need to follow God with our whole heart

and ask God for understanding

as we read his Word.

Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea,

shall observe it with my whole heart.

Psalm 119:34 KJV

Psalm 119:2 AMPC

reminds us of the results of obedience to God.

It says...

Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied)

are they who

keep

His testimonies,

and who seek, inquire for and of

Him and crave Him

with the whole heart.

The Book of Psalms

God wrote the book of Psalms

to minister to our mind and to our emotions.

Psalms is a poetic book.

God’s poetry frequently uses word pictures

to help give understanding

and

stir our emotions in the right direction.

-

We see this in Psalm 119...

Psalm 119

speaks of our

"whole heart."

It says...

With my whole heart have I sought You,

inquiring for and of You and yearning for You;

Oh, let me not wander or step aside

[either in ignorance or willfully]

from Your commandments.

Psalm 119:10 AMPC

Below is a Helpful Video

on this subject.

Psalm 103:1-2 CEV

gives the emphasis

of what it is to put your whole heart

in prayer and praise.

It says...

With all my heart
    I praise the Lord,
and with all that I am
    I praise his holy name!

With all my heart
    I praise the Lord!
    I will never forget
    how kind he has been.
