The words of Andy Stanley
are troubling.
Pastor Andy Stanley is currently
not supporting what the Bible says.
Andy Stanley
used to be
one of my favorite preachers.
Many years ago I watched him but then tapered off for some unknown reason.
Later, I found that...
Andy has
abandoned many vital parts of Christianity.
-
Many of us have a soft spot in our heart for Andy
so we don't want to hear that he now disagrees with the Bible.
-
This page will compare
Andy Stanley's words to the Bible.
The green arrow

Andy's quotes, videos, and my comments.

Sometimes people change.
Andy's actual words will be hard to hear.
Buckle your seat belt.
This page has videos of Andy's outrageous words.
I remind you
that
in Acts chapter 17
the Bible praises the Bereans because they
checked
Paul 's Words
by using the Old Testament!
How much more
should we check out
the words of current Bible teachers
to see if
what they teach - agrees with the Bible!

of Andy
are publicly saying...
Do Not Go to Andy 's Church.
Some of their videos are on this page.
They have talked to Andy
again and again
about
his outrageous words that oppose Bible Scripture.
Andy appears unconcerned that his words
often deny Bible truths.
As I write this page I say -
I am sad as I report to you that
Andy Stanley has turned Christianity on its head.
Andy needs prayer from us.
Here are some of the topics I will cover -
These are not listed in the order I will present them.
1. Andy says Christians need to disregard the Old Testament.
2. Andy says it is fine to think the Bible is full of myths.
Sometimes Andy makes fun of adults
who believe
the Bible is totally true.
3. Andy says we should not obey the 10 Commandments.
( He does NOT explain what he means. )
4. Andy defines sin as - only when you hurt another person.
5. Andy says Christians only have to believe 2 miracles
from
the Bible.
A Christian can reject all the other miracles.
6. Andy admits that if he did not believe in the virgin birth,
he would not admit it
because it would hurt his career.
7. Andy does NOT think the virgin birth is important.
8. Andy wants everyone to stop saying, "The Bible says...."
Andy often says things that undermine the authority of the Bible.
-
This page is very detailed
because Andy's influence is so vast.
Each new topic
will start with a box
like this.
Number 1
This first one is long.
The rest are short ones except Number 9.
If you want to skip to Number 2 - click Here
1. Andy is teaching that Christians MUST
" unhitch " from the Old Testament.
BUT
Jesus did not leave that option open to Christians.
There are many verses that illustrate that Andy is wrong.
For example,
in Matthew 4:4
Jesus is teaching.
Jesus answered and said,
It is written,
Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
Jesus said
that people need to live by every word of God.
That means -
the words in the Old Testament are important.
The only Scriptures
at the time Jesus was speaking in Matthew 4:4
WAS
the Old Testament.
Video Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
Andy is totally wrong in saying that
the New Testament writers unhitched from the Old Testament.
They relied on the Old Testament
and told us that it is true and foundational.
For example,
Acts 24:14
Paul says,
" But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets. "
And let's look at
Peter
Peter emphasized the importance of the Old Testament in
2 Peter 1:20-21 and 2 Peter 3:2.
Concerning the book of Acts
Peter showed his reliance on
the Old Testament as he preached his famous sermon in Acts.
In Acts,
Peter preaches that the Gospel is built on
The Old Testament.
Acts 2:16-21 - quoting Old Testament Joel
Acts 2:25-31 and verses 34-35 - quoting Old Testament David
Acts 3:18 - showing reliance on The Old Testament
Acts 3:21-23 quoting Old Testament Moses
Acts 3:24 NAS says, "And likewise all the prophets who have spoken from Samuel and his successors onward also announced these days."
And I'll highlight
Paul
in Acts 28:23
There are MORE examples in The Book of Acts of the early disciples building the Christian Faith on The Old Testament.
I only highlighted some of them.
Andy's last words in the above video were -
"Once someone pocked a hole
in the Genesis creation myth..... "
!!!
Andy,
no one has pocked a hole in the Bible Genesis creation account.
Scientists get things wrong ALL THE TIME.
That is why
science is always changing.
For a simple example -
During my life, scientists have changed their "truth" over and over
about the topic -
Are eggs good for you?
Answers have been:
Yes - then years later No - then years later whites are ok but yolks are bad - then years later eggs are good in moderation - and right now the subject is in flux and will probably change soon.
Each time the scientists' answer to that question was given to us earnestly as
"NOW we have the true answer. Previously we didn't know."
I've lived long enough to totally realize that
what "Science says" today, will
probably be significantly or totally the opposite
of what they said 20 years ago.
Here is a July 2025 article about an egg study.
Cut & Paste in browser:
https://studyfinds.org/eggs-can-help-lower-cholesterol-surprising-study/
For most healthy adults, eating eggs as part of a diet low in saturated fat appears not just harmless but
potentially beneficial for cholesterol management.

(2025). “Impact of dietary cholesterol from eggs and saturated fat on LDL cholesterol levels: a randomized cross-over study,” published in July 2025 edition of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 122, 83–91. The study was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT05267522.
Attention:
Andy says
that if the Bible and science disagree -
we should believe science.
So Andy wants us to abandon the Bible and believe "science" every time "science" changes its mind.
To hear Andy say that comment,

contradictory claims
of
so-called “knowledge.”
(The KJV actually says - " Science" instead of knowledge.)
See our page about The Truth about Evolution.
Again,
ANDY is also
Wrong
about the authors of The New Testament.
They did not
unhitch from the Old Testament.
I re-emphasize what Paul said -
Paul speaks about the Old Testament Scriptures
being the basis for our moral instruction
in 2 Timothy 3:15-17
"You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful
to teach us
what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.
It corrects us
when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work."
Paul was talking about The Old Testament!
Jesus
is speaking about the Old Testament
in Matthew 5:17-19 NKJV
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore
breaks one of the
least of these commandments,
and teaches men so,
shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven;
but
whoever does and teaches them,
he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. "
Jesus did not take away
from the impact of Old Testament sins.
In fact, Jesus ADDED to our list of sins -
Matthew 5:21-22
“You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.’ 22 But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell."
Then verses 27-28...
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you
that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her
has already committed adultery with her in his heart. "
Disclaimer: I do not know ANYTHING about the speaker above. I am not endorsing him or any other speaker on this page.
Andy
has been called out about this by many Bible teachers.
And note that
Andy will sometimes say he agrees with them and
he is not teaching
something new - it is just a new approach.
Yet when
you listen to what he says over the years,
he has actually doubled down on promoting it
by continuing
to distance himself from the Old Testament and continuing
to teach about the lack of important of the Old Testament.
Many times he has used negative words and tone of voice
(and even sarcasm)
when discussing the Old Testament.
Examples are further down the page.
I am very sad to say that -
Andy has developed a reputation
for
being slippery when voicing his beliefs and
addressing questions.
Andy has participated in a
formal debate about this topic.

I suggest you listen to this debate

it will

https://youtu.be/yji0fqtVEw8?si=8ryvU7dK8DxZslHJ
Concerning the video below...
Andy sometimes says that
the early church had no Scriptures - no Bible.
> > That is not true and it is ridiculous. < <
Andy is wrong.
Examples
are all over the New Testament.
When you read in the Bible about
"The Scriptures" that is speaking of
The Old Testament."
It is astonishing that he could be so wrong.
Just because Andy says something - doesn't make it so.
Examples
Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:15
"You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.
And in Acts 17: 2 Paul reasoned with the Jews from the Scriptures.
Jesus
Jesus often spoke of the Scriptures and referred to the Scriptures
in the way a person would do
who was talking to people who were very familiar with them.
-
Luke 4:16-21
Jesus began his ministry in the temple
reading from the book of Isaiah
and then saying,
"Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

Number 2
2. Andy admits
that he does not know
what the Bible means by
"Abstain from sexual immorality."
A pastor
should be able to define
" sexual immorality. "
And
a pastor's definition should include
Bible Scriptures.
In the video below,
Andy makes fun of this topic and then moves on.
Sincere people
come to pastors to explain the Bible - not mock the Bible.
-
Here is
Andy using "humor" to try to influence people.
Video Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
Let's look at the Bible.
In the Bible
we see that
New Testament people
KNEW
what sexual immorality was.
Paul used the term "sexual immorality"
KNOWING
that his audience understood the meaning.
In 1 Corinthians 10:8,
Paul is referring to
Numbers 25:1-9 as a basis for teaching
sexual purity.
Let's read what Paul taught in
1 Corinthians 10:8-11.
"And we must not engage in sexual immorality
as some of them did,
causing 23,000 of them to die in one day.
9 Nor should we put Christ to the test, as some of them did and then died from snakebites. 10 And don’t grumble as some of them did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death.
11 These things happened to them as examples for us.
They were written down
to warn us
who live at the end of the age."
Verse 9 refers to Numbers 21:5-6
Verse 10 refers to Numbers 16:41-49.
Paul
uses Scripture to teach against sexual immorality in
1 Corinthians 6:15-20.
Paul continues to preach against sexual immorality in other places such as:
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, 1 Corinthians 6:9
Ephesians 5:3-5, Romans chapter 1 and Galatians 5:19
God commands us to be sexually pure.
Our website has pages about sexual purity.
And we have a page with thought-provoking comments
from average people
about not having sex until marriage - Purity Comments
And purity prayers - purity prayers.
Number 3
3. In speaking about the New Testament believers,
Andy said,
"The Old Testament
was
not
the go - to source
regarding
sexual behavior
for the church."
Then he said,
"The Old Testament was
not
the go-to source
for
ANY behavior for the church."
-
That is
False!
-
We gave examples from Paul
from
1 Corinthians 10:8-11
in section Number 2 above.
-
The next video highlights Andy's quotes above.
The next video has some " humor. "
I hope the humor in this video doesn't bother you.
Video Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
More examples of using Old Testament Scriptures
as a
Go - To
Source
for behavior in the church:
2 Peter 2:4-9 also verses 14-15
2 Peter 3:14-16 also verses 17-18
1 Peter 1:14-16 (quoting Lev. 20:7)
Galatians 5:14 (quoting Lev. 19:18)
Ephesians 4:25 (quoting Zechariah 8:16)
2 Corinthians 13:1 (quoting Deut. 19:15)
Hebrews 13:5-6 (quoting Deut. 31:6-8 & Psalm 118:6)
And of course
2 Timothy 3:16-17
" All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful
to teach us
what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.
It corrects us
when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work."
Paul was talking about The Old Testament!
Number 4
4. Andy says
that Christians should not obey
The 10 Commandments.
Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
Here is a quick video with
Andy saying it.
First,
I'll address
Jesus affirming that
believers are supposed to obey the Ten Commandments.
Matthew 19:17-19 - The Rich Young Ruler
Jesus told the rich, young ruler ...
"But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
Here we see that
Jesus taught that we must
respect and obey the Ten Commandments.
(And of course there is forgiveness if we repent after we sin.)
Also see - Matthew 15:3-6 (Mark 7:9-13)
Andy disagrees with Jesus!
-
Moreover...
Andy declares his "Ten Commandment" comment
without an explanation
of how
he thinks we should look at the Ten Commandments.
Andy's words throw out each one of the 10 commandments.
So I say to Andy ...
" Your words are confusing.
Andy, your words appear to excuse stealing and murder.
Even the thought of that is ridiculous. "
I say to those reading this page ...
I don't believe Andy means to say stealing and murder are ok.
I'm not so sure
about his stance on adultery and the other commandments.
At one point,
I heard Andy say that adultery was wrong.
But
does this sermon mean he has changed his mind?
Or is "wrong" and "sinful" two different things to Andy?
Over and over
Andy
creates confusion
instead of
clearing up confusion.
Andy often says controversial statements
without a full explanation
which leaves room
for people to decide what they think he meant
instead of Andy being clear.
Another example of Andy being confusing
https://youtube.com/shorts/W6QAZgw25U8?si=7F28z-3VvqyxdUhv
Number 5
5. Andy teaches an :
incomplete definition of sin.
Andy
neglects to clarify
if he understands the true definition of sin.
Here again
Andy creates confusion.
Andy is aware that he creates confusion quite often.
He knows that he leaves questions in the minds
of his audience, and he doesn't seem to care.
He certainly doesn't work on being clear.
Andy has created
ungodly
Gospel messages
that are simple, easy to live by -
and
anti - Bible.
Andy takes out key elements in his Gospel messages
and serves it up without clarification.
Here is another video you might want to watch. It has some good points.
https://youtu.be/WVlnuNflC90?si=p_fuhu1lIUJUnQjJ
1 John 3:4 defines sin as
breaking God's law - which is written in the Old Testament.
"Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law,
for all sin is contrary to the law of God."
There are many definitions of sin.
I want to highlight two definitions.
Sin is -
the exercise of your will
against the will of God.
Sin is...
Whatever
weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience,
obscures your sense of God, takes off your relish for spiritual
things, whatever increases the authority of the body over the mind,
that thing is sin to you,
however innocent it may seem in itself.
― Susanna Wesley
Harming another person
is not
the definition of sin.
And...
I'll add,
that in our society -
harming a person is very subjective.
For example -
a college student might think that a professor
not giving him or her
the opportunity to take a re-test is "harming" them.
But that is not an example of a sin.
So Andy is again creating lots of confusion.
Highlighting
Ananias and Sapphira
God calls many things a sin
that have nothing to do with another person.
For example -
In Acts chapter 5, Ananias and Sapphira sinned by lying. The lying harmed no one.
No one had told them they had to give all their money to the church. It was optional. They apparently wanted to look impressive so they lied.
Another example -
It is a "sin" to take God's name in vain even if you are in a room all by yourself and no one hears.
The heart of the Gospel
is that
we have all
sinned against The Holy God.
To be saved from an eternity in hell
apart from God -
we need to
repent of our sins
and
turn our life over
to living for Jesus and obeying his Words.
Number 6
6. Andy says
Christians only have to believe
2 miracles
from the Bible.
They can reject all the other miracles.
Andy sometimes says
he believes the Bible is inerrant.
And...
Sometimes Andy
laughs
at
the idea that
the Bible is inerrant.
Video Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
Luke 24:25
Jesus says, "O foolish men and slow of heart
to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! "
Verse 26
" Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, he
[Jesus] explained to them
the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures. "
NAS version
I remind you that
the devil works
to get us to doubt the Bible.
A pastor is supposed to
help people remove their doubts about the Truth of the Bible.
Andy feeds people's doubts about the Bible being true.
Andy is doing
what the serpent did to Eve in the garden of Eden.
Andy is
planting doubt about what God has spoken.
The way Andy speaks is not honoring of God and his Word.
An example
is when he says -
"The miracle of the universe -
so you're kinda stuck with that one."
Number 7
7. Andy said
the virgin birth is not that important.
Video Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
Number 8
8. Andy plainly says
that
he is willing to be deceptive
and even lie -
about his beliefs
if
those beliefs
would hurt his reputation and career as a pastor.
Andy said
he would
not
admit to a "career-ending" belief.
Video Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
So:
Michael Brown said to Andy,
"If you were a heretic, you'd own it."
Andy then said
he disagreed with that statement.
(Note: since this video, Michael Brown has said that he believes Andy is teaching great error.)
Andy holds the position of a minister of the Gospel
and
should be a faithful leader for Jesus Christ.
Yet
he confesses that
he will lie about his beliefs about the Bible
IF
it would put his career in danger.
Andy should say,
"Lying is wrong. I will not lie. Even if it hurts
my career and my reputation -
I will not lie. "
But he does not say that.
I totally disagree with Andy when at the end of the video he says,
"This is all kinda silly."
No, Andy, this is not silly.
NEXT...
Is this an indication of Andy teaching that he is deceptive ?
Andy is preaching on Matthew 10:16
NKJV says,
“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves.
Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves."
Some translations use the word "wise" and some use the word "shrewd."
In the link I'm providing you,
Andy's words about deception in church leadership
are unsettling to me.
Note the place where
Andy says you might say,
"That sounds kinda dishonest and sneaky."
https://youtube.com/shorts/hwpMAtlBv_8?si=dXC6hW-tWSI1XuI9
Here, as Andy is preaching about Matthew 10:16, he uses the word "shrewd" and some translations use the word "wise."
https://biblehub.com/greek/5429.htm
Andy accidentally says "wise as serpents" and then laughs it off
as a silly slip of the tongue -
even though many Bible translations use
the word "wise" instead of the word that Andy uses - which is shrewd.
I submit this video to you as - strange and unsettling.
I submit to you another video I find unsettling
as I think about how Andy confuses people.
I wonder if this Youtube short
somehow relates to Andy's talent of confusing people.
Here Andy is asking the question,
"What do you intend to do that you don't want to share because you don't want to hear? "
Then he says,
"You don't want to hear because you know what they will say."

Number 9
9. Andy has been very confusing
about
his stance on the Bible and sexual sins.
As I begin to talk on this topic,
I want to be clear that
I found ONE time where
Andy said
practicing homosexuality - is a sin.
Cut & Paste in your browser
https://youtube.com/shorts/0J68Sog3Vn8?si=hHrVK5ctvy-NKxXd
And I've found
multiple different times
where Andy has said statements that can only be
interpreted as
it is ok to be a practicing homosexual
and still be right with God.
Andy has not come right out and said those exact words.
(Currently, Andy refuses to answer yes or no to that specific question.)
But
listen to him in the video linked below or watch it posted on this page in Number 11 - 2nd video.
You will hear on this video....
Andy promotes a married homosexual couple
who speak on these issues
at Andy's church.
Andy says they have maintained their commitment to Jesus. That to me says he thinks they are right with God.
https://youtu.be/ojx8xE0auDw?si=tHu5diD3AU7XWH0z
In my research, At First, I thought
Andy either
believes it is a sin but thinks it is not very important so he
continually ignores the sinfulness
and neglects to warn people of the spiritual consequences
or
he has changed his mind about it being a sin.
And
then
I saw the video further below.
And from that video it appears clear to me
that Andy now unwilling to say
that it is a sin.
It needs to be said -
We promote love to homosexuals and all people.
We have all dealt with sin and need our Savior.
Introduction to the video below:
Michael Brown (from the "virgin" video previously) explained
on the next video
that he
tried for years to get Andy to clarify
Andy's beliefs on the " practicing homosexual " topic.
Andy went to
ridiculous lengths
to avoid
being specific on the question of practicing - homosexuality.
I would say...
Andy's refusal to answer Michael Brown on that subject
I S
his answer
meaning -
that Andy disagrees with God and God's Word.
Michael Brown
explains the lengths he has gone
for 8 years
to get Andy to answer the practicing homosexual question.
Video Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
Note:
To be clear -
Of course God will forgive Andy if Andy repents to God.
Note:
The next video begins in an unclear way.
So I'll tell you that there is a man talking to Michael Brown.
They are discussing Andy Stanley.
Video Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
When Michael Brown said "Bad Stuff,"
I take it to mean that
he is saying that
Andy Stanley does not currently think that
practicing homosexuality is a sin.
The video below
puts the last two videos
with Dr. Michael Brown
together in one video.
Video Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
Andy appears
to try to get people on both sides of the topic of
" practicing homosexuality is sin "
(those who agree and those who disagree with the statement)
to think he agrees with them.
As I just showed -
Michael Brown finally faced the obvious truth about Andy.
Below
I will give you details about an earlier attempt.
Michael Brown
tried and tried to get
Andy to answer questions.
BELOW
is an
EARLY ATTEMPT
to get Andy to clearly answer questions.
Here is an article Brown wrote about his efforts to pin Andy down.
Cut & Paste in your browser...
https://www.christianpost.com/news/questions-and-corrections-my-dialogue-with-pastor-andy-stanley-about-homosexuality-139144/
Brown ends with these words:
My big question is this.
In my view,
any solid evangelical teacher or preacher
should be able to say without hesitation,
"God's Word clearly forbids all homosexual practice, even in a loving, monogamous context, but our church is absolutely committed to loving and serving the LGBT community and offering them
a place
they can call home as come to know the Lord."
What stops Pastor Stanley from making this statement? I hope to find out soon.
Better still, I hope to hear him make this statement.
Having said that, I appreciate Pastor Stanley reaching out to me and taking the time to interact, I was blessed to hear some of his clarifications, and again, I apologize for grouping disparate quotes together in one context.
In Conclusion:
After enormous attempts to pin Andy down for an answer,
Michael Brown had no other option than to believe that Andy
had departed from the Bible about homosexuality.
Contradictory teaching
Andy's words have been so contradictory that
a close friend of his
pushed him so hard to make a written statement,
that Andy finally did write an article.

Andy feeling dragged
into making a statement about inerrancy.

saying
that he does support the
Biblical definition of marriage.
BUT............ Andy then said,
" For many that is not sustainable.
So they choose same sex marriage
not because they're convinced it is biblical.
They read the same Bible we do.
They choose to marry for the same reason many of us do - love, companionship, and family. And in the end, it is their decision.
Our decision is to decide how we respond to their decision. "

I agree with a comment under one of these videos.....
Andy Stanley never gives a straight answer. He always gives vague and ambiguous replies, and then when people call him out, he claims they "misunderstood" him. That's why Todd Friel calls him "the king of plausible deniability".
Andy
speaking about the conference
A helpful comment under the video:
The struggle is real!!! The confusion is real!!! I came out of the sex industry and you cannot get more twisted and confused in your sexuality than I was. I had to fight for purity during my walk with Christ - what helped me was not affirming my confused sexuality - what actually set me FREE was the Word of God calling it SIN, repenting, seeking His face and seeking help empowered by grace, love and TRUTH - so that today I am walking in total freedom - married to my husband experiencing the abundant life Jesus paid for without shame guilt and condemnation. Hallelujah Not coddling, affirming and making me feel comfortable in my sin. But delivering me from even the desire by the power of the GOSPEL , the BLOOD, the CROSS, the WORD and the unconditional LOVE of GOD expressed through all of these. God is Love and sin is sin - let’s not be deceived by worldly arguments and opinions that have no power to set people free!!!!
Another helpful comment under the video:
Kids can't stay "connected to their faith" if they don't REPENT . Now I agree there is a right way and a wrong way to deal with this issue. Of course we should love our kids and accept them and love them no matter what but we are doing them no favors when we let them believe that God is ok with their sin.
Number 12
12. Andy's controversial
words and actions
are responded to
by
the two videos below.
Gary Hamrick's video is quick.
Disclaimer: I know nothing about Gary Hamrick.
Next
April Chapman's video has some good points.
It is long,
yet I think it is a worthwhile video to watch.
I encourage you to start at
3 minutes 50 seconds.
And at
7 minutes 16 seconds,
April highlights a man named Ryan who went to a
pastoral question and answer session
on September 19, 2019
with
Andy.
Ryan said,
The pastors tried to lovingly confront Andy about his
heretical views.
Andy essentially ignored them.
Disclaimer: I have only watched a couple of April's videos. I am not endorsing everything she says.
Another Point:
As April points out in the video above ....
Andy speaks of certain Scripture verses
in a mocking way.
Here is one example -
Andy calls out some Bible verses as
"clobber verses."

Number 13
13. Andy admits that
people think he is teaching heretical beliefs.
As mentioned in the video above in section 12
and in other sections of this page,
Andy has had conversations with
Bible teacher friends
and with many pastors
who have
shared with him
that they believe he is speaking error and even heresy.
First
I will highlight one problem among many
with
the words Andy is saying in the video below.
In the video:
Andy says he wants for everyone to -
tether the faith of this generation and the next
to the event of the resurrection
rather than
the inspiration, infallibility or the authority of the Bible.
Here is one of the problems with Andy's words....
Jesus says in Luke 16:31,
"If they will not listen to Moses and the Prophets,
they will not be persuaded
even if someone rises from the dead."
Andy continually teaches that
people should steer away
from conversations about the Bible being totally true.
even though the early church built
their foundation on the truthfulness of the Scriptures.
Since Andy knows
that many people think he teaches
bad ideas, error, and even heresy,
he sometimes tries to use
humor
to lower the audiences'
normal defenses
against what he is saying.
Next video has
Great Points
During the first minute -
keep your ears ready for Andy to softly say,
"Oh, good. No lightning!"
Video Disclaimer: I know nothing about the Youtube maker above or his ministry.
In the video above,
when Andy said the lightning comment,
Andy was inferring
that
some people
would think that statement
is so heretical
that God would send lightning on him.
Unfortunately it is not unusual for
Andy
to make fun of
and be sarcastic about
going against Bible principles.
I've also noticed that Andy uses biblical - sounding language
to teach false things.
Andy even sometimes
admits that -
his words sometimes appear
that he believes one thing
and later
his later words
appear that
he believes the opposite of what he previously said.
The confusion about his words doesn't bother Andy.
Pastors should want their words to be clear.
That lack of concern from Andy
is a red flag in itself.
Andy appears uninterested in helping people to realize
that the Bible IS true.
Andy spends his time
tearing down the Bible
instead of reinforcing the Truth of the Bible.
Number 14
14. Andy teaches
that all Preachers and all Christians
should stop saying "The Bible says."
No, Andy....
" The Bible Says "
was good enough for Jesus.
It should be
good enough for everyone.
Condemning those three words and refusing to ever say them -
actually works to make people think that the reliability of
Scripture is not important enough to defend.
Here is a video with
Andy
on this topic.
Video Disclaimer: I know nothing about the above speaker or his ministry.
Andy has worked hard - to fight against those 3 words.
Catching yourself and continually changing your words
so you do not say, "The Bible says" is alarming.
The Bible is the foundation of our Faith.
Andy tears down
the foundation of our Faith in the Bible
instead of building it up.
Again...
" The Bible Says "
was good enough for Jesus.
It should be
good enough for everyone.
Unlike Andy -
Jesus
highlighted
the authoritativeness of the Old Testament.
There are MANY examples.
Here are two.
First Example -
In Luke 4, we see the announcement by Jesus of his ministry.
Jesus was in Nazareth in the synagogue on the Sabbath day.
Jesus read from the book of Isaiah.
Verses 20-21
Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them,
“Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
Jesus announced the beginning of his ministry by using
The Old Testament Scriptures.
Jesus always taught that The Old Testament was
God's Word.
It was True and
Needed to be Obeyed
Second Example
Luke 24 - The walk to Emmaus
NLT version
After the death of Jesus, he joined two men who were walking.
That same day two of Jesus’ followers were walking to the village of Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem. 14 As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus himself suddenly came and began walking with them. 16 But God kept them from recognizing him.
Verse 25
25 Then Jesus said to them, “You foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures.
26 Wasn’t it clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering his glory?”
27 Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
Note: Verse 25 -
ALL that the prophets wrote.
Jesus affirms it ALL.
Joe Dallas
who was highlighted in Number 11

the topic of
" The Bible Says "
in a Powerful way.

Number 15
15. Andy almost 100% of the time
refuses to be used by God
to speak words to people
that could bring conviction of their sins.
2 Corinthians 7:10
says
Godly sorrow
brings repentance
that leads to salvation
and leaves no regret,
but worldly sorrow brings death.
Andy spends his time
making unrepentant sinners feel comfortable
instead of
helping them understand
the eternal condition to their soul
unless
they repent and make Jesus their Lord.
The next video
is very shocking.
Video Disclaimer: I do not know the above speaker or anything about his ministry.
Andy misinterprets this Scripture.
No Andy -
This Scripture is NOT talking about
neglecting to evangelize and
share that we are sinners in need of a Savior.
It is NOT talking about neglecting to explain to unbelievers about sin.
Andy's interpretation
conflicts with Scriptures about sharing the Gospel.
Examples:
Mark 16:15-16
"And He [Jesus] said to them,
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. "
To every creature - not just to those who ask you questions.
Acts 17:17
Paul taught the Gospel to whoever was near him.
17 Therefore he (Paul) reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there.
The Scripture ( 1 Thessalonians4:11 ) is teaching:
Don't unnecessarily get involved in other's business.
(There are times that we need to get involved in another person's business.)
A quiet life is peaceful - and a life of feeling satisfied and content.
It is talking about
embracing peace as much as you can while being diligent to do YOUR assignments from God - your daily work - instead of ignoring your work and always looking at and nit picking about the life of others.
Next...
Addressing Andy's presented ideas
Andy says
he doesn't want us to "impose our rules" on unbelievers.
Those "rules" he speaks of - are God's rules and if disobeyed
will result in consequences.
We are called to let people know that there are consequences.
Romans 10:14-15
Andy disagrees with the Scriptures.
Another example
Acts chapter 5
Look at how our early Christian leaders modeled being a Christian -
They were put in prison for preaching the Gospel
to people
- most of their audience didn't want to hear it. -
Yet, God supernaturally released them from prison.
And what did they do?
They went back to preaching everywhere they went.
(They were offending many with their words.)
The Bible says....
25 So one came and told them, saying, “Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!”
26 Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned. 27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, 28 saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!”
29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.
Verse 42
42 And daily
in the temple,
and in every house,
they did not cease
teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
~
Preaching in the temple was not like preaching in a church.
The Temple was Jewish territory - not Christian territory.
They were not welcomed in the Temple.
-
Apparently, if Andy were there, he would have told them to stop
offending the Jews who didn't believe in Jesus.
Number 16
16. Andy said
that he thought he needed
an elevator pitch
for his faith.
Unfortunately,
Andy's created elevator speech
is
NOT
a statement of Saving Faith in Jesus Christ.
It has none of the important aspects of
our need for a Savior, repentance, and our blessing of
Jesus' sacrifice for our sins.
Video Disclaimer: I do not know the above video creator or anything about his ministry.
So Andy's quick elevator pitch is ...
" Following Jesus has made my life better
as selfish as that sounds
and
made me better at life
because it has made me less selfish and less about me. "
Beth says...
Folks -
that is not a statement of saving faith
that leads to heaven.
A true elevator pitch example
is
" I am a Christian
because I was a sinner
and
I found out that Jesus died for sins.
So I repented of my sins to God
and
I accepted Jesus as my Savior and the Lord of my Life.
I follow Jesus in love and obedience
as best as I can
and
one day I will be in heaven.
Jesus has made a wonderful difference in my life."
It is concerning
to contemplate
that Andy Stanley is not really a saved Christian.
Afterall, his father is Charles Stanley!
How could he be preaching and not be saved?
Andy and every other pastor - should be accurate and bold
to say that the way to heaven
is
repenting of your sins
and
giving your full life to following Jesus
and
believing ALL of the Bible is true.
The
NEXT Section
Gives the explanation.
Number 17
17. Andy changed his way of preaching
because
of listening to an atheist!
Andy listened to a video where an atheist
was teaching that it is
impossible
to believe that the whole Bible is true!
Andy listened to the atheist and then
accepted the idea that
it is too hard
- impossible really -
to defend the truthfulness of the Bible!
In the next video...
Andy uses
humor,
to get people to accept
lies
about the
impossibility
of defending the Bible as TRUE.
Andy agrees
with the atheist that
the Bible CAN NOT be defended!
The story starts at 1 minute 12 seconds:
Andy says, "About 9 years ago....."
If the Bible isn't authoritative and fully true
then we have
no anchor.
Then anything can be true.
-
Pastors
are supposed to make themselves equipped
to speak to people who doubt the Bible.
Apparently Andy thinks that
turning your back on defending the truth of the Bible
will result in lots of atheists becoming Christians.
What Andy doesn't understand is
if
someone waters down the Gospel
to make an atheist happy -
then
if the atheist comes to believe Andy's flavor of the Gospel -
the atheist isn't really a Christian!
I saw someone write:
Andy Stanley tries so hard to appeal
to the unbeliever,
that he compromises everything the Bible stands for.-
The debate I highlighted in the first section
has a good rebuttal
to Andy's words
in the video above.
From 19 and 1/2 minutes to 25 and 1/2 minutes
there are excellent points
that address the words Andy spoke in the video above.
https://youtu.be/yji0fqtVEw8?si=8ryvU7dK8DxZslHJ
Comment under the debate video
I grew up in Alpharetta, Georgia and was a member of North Point, which is Andy Stanley’s main church. I was a Sunday Christian. It felt good and moral to dedicate my Sunday mornings to church but the other 6 1/2 days I lived in the world and nothing that Andy Stanley preached challenged that life.
Then when I was 16 my mom tricked me into going to an apologetics camp. I didn’t even know what that word meant. And in 4 days I learned who Christ actually was. My stagnated sanctification started growing once I left his church and I became who God created me to be.
Andy Stanley’s methodologies attract people because he doesn’t challenge them to change or grow. So his church is huge but his members don’t know the Bible, they have no rock to stand on when tragedy hits, and they are weak in their faith
.
Number 18
18. Andy changes the Bible definition of
Repent.
~
I finished this page and then saw this alarming situation.
So I am adding this new section to this page
before the last two sections on this page.
I watched a video of Andy preaching in the book of Acts.
While speaking about Acts 2:38,
Andy puts Acts 2:38 NIV on a screen and read,
"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized.' "
Andy then continued his sermon.
* * *
*
ANDY
left out most of the verse.
Look what Andy left out....
Here is Acts 2:38 NIV
" Peter replied,
' Repent and be baptized, every one of you,
in the name of Jesus Christ
for the forgiveness of your sins.
And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ' "
Here are the very next words of Andy -
" Repent means change your mind. These weren't people who needed to turn away from sin. It wasn't that kind of repentance. It was - you need to change your mind about who Jesus is and who Jesus was. And once you've changed your mind, you need to publicly identify with Jesus by being baptized. "
Beth says,
"That interpretation is totally wrong. Andy's interpretation is so bad and the impact could be so devastating that I am planning to do a special page with a video of Andy saying this and why he is wrong.
Here is part of that future page -
The same Greek word translated in English as
"repent"
in Acts 2:38
is the same Greek word used in many New Testament verses.
Yes, it means to change your mind.
It means to change your mind about sin and sinning.
The instances always refer to changing your mind about sin.
All translations direct us to repenting OF SIN.
This has been the interpretation for 2,000 years.
If you read
all the verses I provide,
I think you will clearly see that Andy is wrong.
Notice that Andy leaves out most of the verse.
Why would he do that?
This link will give all verses to you.
Cut and Paste in your browser to see all the occurrences.
https://biblehub.com/greek/3340.htm
Below, I will list many examples of the verses.
I strongly urge you to read
the following verses so that
you can clearly, very clearly see that Andy is wrong.
Acts 2:38 is the verse Andy takes and defines completely wrong.
Next are Acts verses which all show they were preaching
repentance of sin.
Acts 8:22, Acts 17:30, Acts 26:20
(I urge you to read Mark 6:12 after the Acts verses. The Acts verses show they were doing what they were doing in Mark 6:12 - where Jesus sent them out with these instructions.)
Matthew 3:2 - John the Baptist was preaching repent before Jesus started his ministry.
Matthew 4:17 (the first words of Jesus' public ministry that Matthew records)
Next - Key verses in seeing what "repent" means -
Jesus is speaking these three Scriptures and associating repenting of sin with sackcloth and ashes.
Matthew 11:20 and 21, and Matthew 12:41
Add Jonah 3 verses 5, 6, and 8 to also see the sackcloth and ashes.
Mark 1:15 (the first words Mark records of Jesus beginning his public ministry)
Luke 10:13, Luke 11:32, Luke 12:3 and verse 5 Unless you repent!
Luke 17:3
2 Corinthians 12:21
Repenting is a key part of salvation.
If the act of
Jesus dying on the cross took care of all the sins of the world
then everyone would go to heaven.
We must sincerely repent of our sins
and accept
Jesus AS OUR Savior and as LORD of OUR life
in order to be right with God and go to heaven.
(LORD indicates our willingness to try to obey Jesus.)
Check out our Explaining Salvation
Andy does not preach a clear salvation message
but instead
creates confusion and gives misinformation.
Number 19
19. Andy infers that
Jesus could be wrong.
Just because Jesus said it - doesn't make it true.
Andy's words on this topic are so outrageous that I have to
wonder if
Andy actually and sincerely mis-spoke.
Here is the problem that is nagging at me....
I have not heard anything about Andy coming back and explaining this statement.
(I've searched for that.)
-
Of all the controversial statements Andy has said,
I would say that this one is the most alarming.
So
I would expect that he would correct this one.
But as far as I know, he has not.
Short version
https://youtube.com/shorts/Qdj8yCaIxHA?si=6yWJ8Andkrin5Mbt
Here is a longer video
with interesting commentator comments.
Video Disclaimer: I know nothing about the video creator or his ministry.
Number 20
20. Andy says
it is fine for Christians
to believe that the Old Testament stories are myths.
The video below is just one example of
the many times that
Andy has said
that believing that the
Old Testament is full of myths
is no big deal.
In the video below,
Andy starts out revealing that
he and others in a college class
had their faith in the Bible totally dismantled in an hour.
That showed how unprepared spiritually they were.
Then Andy
gives his seal of approval on the idea that -
it is not a problem
for people to believe the Bible stories are myths.
Andy says,
" You can believe that
Adam and Eve is a creation myth. So what? "
A preacher's job
is to help people believe the Bible stories - not agree
with them that it is fine to see them as myths.
Then
Andy says he believes
the Adam and Eve story because Jesus did.
-
To be Specific:
Sometimes Andy says he believes the Old Testament stories
and
sometimes he clearly infers that they are myths.
Andy's choice of words creates confusion.
Video Disclaimer: I am not endorsing any person or ministry.
In the video above -
Andy appears to me that he is trying
to validate both sides of a topic.
Number 1 Example
He plainly declares that
the Creation story is a myth and says,
"Who can believe that?"
Number 2 Example
Later,
Andy declares,
"Jesus believes the creation story so....... I do too."
So
Andy has a way of preaching that
"allows" him
to be on both sides of a topic.
Todd Friel says that Andy Stanley
is the
King of Plausible Deniability.
When Andy makes a statement
about something controversial,
he is able to
verbally wiggle around and around
and never give a clear answer to someone
who is trying to nail him down to one side or the other.
The truth is
Mature Christians believe the Bible is completely true.
Andy hinders spiritual growth in people
and
actually he disassembles a person's belief in the Bible
by what he says,
by what he does not say
and
by mocking Christians
who do believe the Bible is completely true.
Andy's words, tone, and attitudes
undermine the truth contained in the Bible.
Myths
In the next video,
Andy is creating doubts about the truth of the Bible
and implying that
"believing the Bible stories are true" - -
is for children.
-
Andy's teaching undermines the validity of the Bible.
-
I will give more comments after the video.
No Andy -
The Bible is not a House of Cards.
~
So...
what does Andy
truly Believe about
the Truth of the Bible?
If
you look at which side
gets the brunt of his sarcasm,
and the brunt of his disrespectful humor,
you can figure out
which side he is promoting.
