Psalm 131

Psalm 131

-

A Psalm of

Surrendering our Will

in Submission

to God.

Psalm 131

is about

making God

LORD

of your

Life

Verse 1

Lord, my heart is not haughty,

nor mine eyes lofty:

neither do I exercise myself

in great matters,

or in things too high for me.

David was saying:

My previous condition

was

a man

with a haughty heart and lofty eyes.

I had a lot of ungodly pride.

PRIDE

I thought I had almost all the answers.

I previously was very stirred up
about things.

- -

I was restless to share my knowledge.

I had opinions on just about everything
even things
that are too great for me to understand.

- -

I used to strive to be the leader of my life.

But now I have grown more mature

and

my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty.

- -

Now I do not exercise myself

in great matters,

or in things too high for me.

(Because something has changed me.)

Verse 2

Surely I have behaved and quieted myself,

as a child that is weaned of his mother:

my soul is even as a weaned child.

David was saying:

I have finally resigned my will,

and now

I will do the will of God.

My struggle was similar to a child

who has gone through the weaning process.

I now am no longer struggling

against God's will.

~

I accept God's will

for my life.

Verse 3

Let Israel hope in the Lord

from henceforth

and for ever.

Hope in the Lord

In Verse 3:

David was expressing his love

for the people of Israel.

He was implying that his love for each person

compels him

toward a deep desire

that each one

would learn

what he has learned

and thus

be

blessed.

~

It is as though

David is letting us know

that he has a three-fold prayer

for all the people of Israel

and even

for us.

David's Three-Fold Prayer

David's three-fold Prayer is:

***  That all of Israel (and all of us) will become in awe of how

much higher and how much wiser -  God is than us.

***  That the next time each person faces the struggle of

surrendering his/her will to God's will - each person will choose

to truly surrender.

***  That each person will then follow-through and allow

his/her hope and his/her  entire life to be solidly placed in the

leadership of the God of all Creation.

Inspiration from verse 1

Proclamations to say

out loud:

I am maturing in the Lord.

I am no longer

an easy target for pride.

I will no longer easily fall

into

being opinionated about everything

and

thinking I can fully understand

deep and complicated things.

Scripture:

Be still and know

that

I am God.

Psalm 46:10 KJV

Since God is directing our steps

why try to understand everything

that happens along the way.

Proverbs 20:24 TLB

Prayer

Dear Lord,

I am dedicated to

becoming

a more

teachable person.

Help me, Lord.

Amen

Inspiration from verse 2

The psalmist has learned to calm and quiet his soul - his  mind, his will, and his emotions.

David now knows how to take himself -

  from

being a prisoner of
irritation
and
agitated/restless feelings

to

the freedom of a calm and peaceful place.

David's struggle reminds him of a weaned child who can now be held by his mother and not feel the need of breastfeeding. The child has found contentment.

Proclamation:

I am learning:

*  to walk closer to God

*  to yield to God's guidance

*  to receive the peace of God

     and

*  to calm and quiet my soul - my mind, will, and emotions.

Scripture:

It is good for me to draw near to God.

Psalm 73:28a KJV

~

Godliness with contentment is great gain.

1 Timothy 6:6 KJV

~

God, you give true peace

to people who depend on you,

to those who trust in you.

Isaiah 26:3 ERV

Prayer

God,

Show me how

to draw closer to you.

Amen

Inspiration from verse 3

The psalmist urges Israel

and all God's people

to learn

quietness, calmness, and contentment

in the will of God.

After reading verse 3, we are reminded:

The struggle during the weaning process is over for David.

The "baby" has realized that life has to change and there is no use fighting the inevitable.

The "baby" has accepted this new life.

The "baby" now feels peace and contentment.

The "baby" now finds true joy in this new life.

David's hope is now solidly built on God.

And now David's attention turns to those who need the blessings that he has experienced.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

You are the Shepherd of my Life.

Thank you for calming me and helping me to be in harmony and unity with your will for my life.

I pray that everyone, everywhere would realize the beauty and the benefits of following you closely.

I pray for my loved ones that you would expose every lie that they believe that keeps them snared and hindered from a great relationship with you.

In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen

Psalm 131 Prayer
continued

God's word and God's will

are

truth.

I need to submit my will

to his will.

Dear Lord,

I need to submit to your will.

I need to lay down, and walk away, from the things in my life that do not line up with your biblical truth.

I need to conquer myself.

I need to use wisdom when making godly decisions.

I need to use self-control in order to follow you closely.

Help me, Lord.

I am determined to learn to yield to your will.

In Jesus' name I pray,

Amen

Lord,

Lead me to your purposes and plans.

Help me to embrace them.

Help me to enjoy them.

May my heart beat in unison with you.

You are my rock and my fortress.

In you I will trust.

Amen
