Fear of the Lord
is a phrase
that
stands for
a way of looking at God
and
interacting with God.
It includes
a way of living our life
with the awareness of the seriousness
of the Words
that God puts in the Bible -
both the
enjoyable words
and
the
judgment words that are linked to sin.
Many Bible verses give us warnings
and if we have a
healthy
Fear of the Lord,
we will heed the warnings.
But....
Proverbs 1:29-31
tell of those who have no
Fear of the Lord
And [they] did not choose the fear of the Lord,
They would have none of my counsel
And despised my [wisdom's] every rebuke.
Therefore
they shall eat the fruit of their own way,

Just this video from him.
From the above video:
When you walk in the Fear of the Lord, it protects you from:
Stumbling,
Darkness,
Traps of the enemy... and...
The favor of the Lord is on you.
Let's Build
on the above video
and gain
More understanding
John Bevere shares beautiful
and
important points.
This section is based on the above video. . .
The Fear of the Lord
brings intimacy with God.
The person who is scared of God has something to hide.
For example: As soon as Adam sinned, he hid from God.
The person who has a
Healthy
- Fear of the Lord -
has
nothing to hide from God.
The person who has a healthy
Fear of the Lord
is scared to be away from the Lord.
To that person,
God is his best friend.
So that person is terrified to be away from God -
to be separated (even a little) from God.
That person is more scared to be distant from God than he is scared of anything else.
When we fear God in a healthy way,
we venerate him
(honor, respect, revere, value, stand in awe of him)
more than anyone or anything.
When we do that,
we will love what he loves,
and we will hate what he hates.
And...
What is important to God
becomes
important to us.
-
What is not so important to God
becomes
not so important to us.
When we fear God,
we take on his heart.
Our heart becomes more like him.
Those who fear the Lord, hate evil. Why? Because God hates evil...... We need to learn to hate sin like God hates sin.
God loves sinners but hates sin. So we love sinners and hate sin.
We also hate sin in our own life - not just in the lives of others. We hate sin in our life and work to root it out.
The more you know
GOD
the more you want
his presence in your daily life
and the more you desire
intimacy with him.
The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him,
in those that hope in his mercy.
Psalm 147:11 KJV
Below
is the same verse in the AMP version:
The Lord favors those
who
fear and worship
Him
[with awe-inspired reverence and obedience],
Those who wait
for His
mercy and lovingkindness.
Psalm 147:11 AMP
An aspect of the understanding
of the
Fear of the Lord
is
in this definition....
Fear of the Lord
is
Fear that God's Word will come true.
* * *
*
God's Word has truth
that is scary for those who live in opposition to God.
*
Those who fear God,
realize that they need to protect themselves
from wandering away from God
and getting lukewarm toward God.
Meaning:
That even though God forgives sins if we ask sincerely,
there are
often
consequences for sin.
And
there are definitely
consequences
for continually living in opposition
to God's Word.
People
who do not fear God
avoid thinking about the
consequences
for their actions.
Healthy Feelings of Fear
There are
Healthy
Feelings of Fear
that come with
The
Fear of God
For example:
If you are living in sinful rebellion,
then you should feel fear.
When a person has a
proper
Fear of the Lord
it will keep him or her
away from evil.
And a healthy
Fear of God
reminds us
of potential consequences to our actions.
We grow in wisdom
when we realize that
if we do NOT
have a healthy fear of God,
we will experience negative consequences.
So if we HAVE a healthy fear of God,
we will have certain fears ...
These fears are not
"shaking in our boots"
fears.
These are like the fear that we have
when
we think
of
touching a hot stove.
Our awareness
of the consequences of touching
a hot stove
gives us fear
just like
our awareness to the consequences of sin
gives us fear.
So we wisely have these fears:
Fear of a loss of intimacy with God.
Because we value deep intimacy with God.
Therefore, we lovingly and carefully listen for God's guiding voice.
Fear of hurting the heart of God.
Because we love him and therefore, we don't want to hurt him.
Therefore, we put forth effort to obey God and make obedience a priority.
Fear of the negative consequences that we must face when we sin.
Because we don't want to suffer.
Therefore, we put forth effort and try to obey God.
Fear that if our loved ones do not have a healthy fear of God, they will be very vulnerable to sin.
Because we don't want our loved ones to suffer.
Therefore.... our fear propels us to pray for our loved ones, and it propels us to teach our children and grandchildren about properly fearing God.
Next,
a discussion about
Unhealthy Feelings of Fear of God.
Here are three examples of
FEELING
an
Unhealthy Fear of God:
Afraid God is out to get you.
Afraid that God has turned his back on you.
Afraid God will not forgive you of your sins if you confess your sins and repent. (1 John 1:9)
All of the above green statements
are lies
that
people sometimes tell themselves
which leads to a feeling of
Fear.
As long as we are still alive and breathing,
God welcomes us back into his arms.
(After death is too late.)
A
Healthy Fear of God
is the
Beginning of Wisdom
If you don't
have a healthy
Fear of the Lord,
you don't fully know him
for who he is.
The Fear of the Lord
brings restraint
so we resist sinning.
It may help to think about this:
If a child has a
healthy
fear of parents and teachers,
it will keep him or her
from disobeying the rules.
In God's kingdom,
there are good consequences
for obeying
and negative consequences
for disobeying.
Fear of negative consequences
gives us respect for God
and keeps us from disobeying.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 TLB
says
"Here is my final conclusion:
Fear God and obey his commandments,
for this is the entire duty of man."
In John 14:23
Jesus says
"If you love me,
you will keep my commandments."
And if we love God,
we will grow to love righteousness
and we will grow to hate sin.
(We will hate sinful acts not sinful people.)
Proverbs 8:13 NKJV
says
"The fear of the Lord is to hate evil."
As you grow in your fear of the Lord -
it means that you will grow
to hate evil (not people but evil deeds)
and you will grow to want holiness in your life.
Psalm 34:11 NKJV
Come, you children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
I urge you to look up that Scripture
and read what comes after
verse 11.
Charles Stanley
gives us helpful insights.
Growing our Fear of the Lord
creates humility and other great blessings.
The video below
gives some awesome insights.
Fear of the Lord
includes a growing understanding of the
majesty, worth and value of God.
Comparison
Fear of the World vs. Fear of God
which has more weight in your life?
Some people have more
Fear of not pleasing people.
Other people have more
Fear that they might not please their Lord.
God gives us the path to
The Fear of the Lord
in Proverbs chapter 2.
My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
4 If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 Then
you will understand
the
Fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 2:1-5 NKJV
The following video

Proverbs chapter 2.
I found the following video
very inspirational and worthwhile.
I am glad that I listened to it.
Yet, the noise of the group he is speaking to are a
distraction.
So be forewarned that there are distractions!
Let's listen to the Lord
and learn from him
with the holy and worthwhile purpose
of walking in
The Fear of the Lord.
Prayer for Walking with God
based on Proverbs 2
Loving Lord,
I want to walk closely with you.
I will daily give you priority in my life.
I will daily read the Bible.
I will receive and welcome your Words.
I will treasure and value your Instructions.
I will seek wisdom as I would seek silver.
I will search for wisdom as I would search for hidden treasure.
I will cry out to you to understand your will and your ways.
Lord, open my spiritual eyes and ears.
Teach me.
Guide me.
Awaken my heart to you in a new and beautiful way.
In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen
