for Facing a Crisis
as a
married couple

Wife

Husbands and Wives
will at some point
find themselves
facing a crisis as a couple
that is not rooted in their marriage
but in other life circumstances.
Many times
a
marriage
is being strained
by a crisis
such as
Health issues,
death of a family member,
work pressures,
job loss,
extended family issues
unexpected bills, etc.
These can cause a crisis in the life of a married couple.

This
first
Prayer
was posted on
our original
crisis prayer page.

Almighty God,
You see this family crisis.
You understand everything about it.
I am coming to you seeking your help.
Give us new ways of looking at this situation.
Give us solutions we have not thought of.
Give us insights into the changes that need to take place.
Show us how to get from where we are to where we need to be.
Help us to see this crisis from the view of a couple working together - not from the view of opposing people fighting each other.
Lord, you are an amazing God, and we need your amazing help.
I will draw closer to you, Lord, during this crisis.
I will not let this situation keep me from staying close to you.
Give me wisdom and discernment.
Help me to make right choices.
In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen

It is usually true
that it is
the
WIFE
who is
first
aware
of the strain in a marriage.
And it is the wife who is usually
the one
who does
the most
prayer and research
on how to make things better.
And it is the wife who is usually
the one
who tries the hardest
to set the tone of peace and intimacy
in the home.
I point this out
- not to get you angry about that -
but to
get you to see your important role in your marriage,
and to
remind you
of how vital it is
to your marriage
that you be in a
submissive role to Father God.

You are the heart of the home.
You have great
POWER
to make changes
if
you will seek to do it God's way.

This page
will give you
lots of practical ways
to help your marriage.

Let us
begin
with two prayers.

Father God,
I ask that you help me to live my life
in selfless service
to you.
I ask for your strengthening
POWER
to fill me and make me
into a
Mighty Woman of God.
Amen

The next prayer
is designed
to help a couple
overcome
a crisis
and reinforce intimacy.

Prayer
written
for a Wife to pray.

Dear God,
You are Merciful and Mighty.
You have all Wisdom and Knowledge.
I come before you
needing
your intervention in our circumstances and in our marriage.
I lift up my husband in prayer.
My husband is hurting so badly.
We are both hurting so badly.
God, I ask that you pour help into my husband's mind and emotions.
I ask that you
help him to hear your voice. And I ask you to help him to yield to your wisdom and guidance - now and throughout this crisis.
I ask that you help him
to
receive the love that I have for him
and
feel comforted by my love.
I ask that you help us to be steady in you in these circumstances.
Help us to receive from you.
Help us to stand strong in you.
Renew our minds and give us thoughts that will keep us from meltdown.
Draw us away from opportunities to make matters worse.
Help us to allow each other
to be experiencing
stress or worry or fear or other unsettling emotions -
without pushing each other away.
Whisper to us
to be gracious to each other
and to easily forgive.
Tenderize
my heart toward my husband.
Strengthen me against self - centeredness.
Help me to not take things personally
but instead
focus on my husband's pain.
Remind me
that you tenderly watch and take note of
every kindness and every selfless act
that
I give to my marriage.
Remind me
to cooperate with you
in bringing blessings to my marriage.
Remind us to avoid
nit - picking
specific words or tone of voice
or even an occasional
mini-meltdown.
Remind us of the blessings of pulling together
instead of
letting our pain push us apart.
Remind me
to thank my husband for everything I can think of
in order to
strengthen our unity.
Strengthen us against worry, irritation, and other unprofitable emotions.
Help us to wait more peacefully on your help.
Thank you for all you are doing for us.
I will put my trust in you.
I pray in the Life - Transforming name of Jesus,
Amen

Further down
you will find
HELP
for those
who are continually being emotionally hurt.
Ladies,
I have been a wife for many years.
It took me a long time to figure some things out.
Allow me (on this page) to give you shortcuts
to a happier marriage
and a stronger relationship with God.
First
I begin with some quick tips -
Seek wisdom - diligently!
Seek to
contain and eliminate self-pity and self-centeredness.
Ask God to
tenderize your heart for how your husband feels.
Try to see
things from his point of view.
Remind yourself that -
It is foolish and destructive
to be upset
when your husband does not read your mind.
Note that - you get more marital happiness with sugar than vinegar.
If you are closer to God
than he is -
do not expect him to act closer to God than you act.

Lots
More tips below -
Including
HOW to talk to your husband about difficult topics.
-
All my tips
are
suggestions.
My tips
may not fit your marriage situation.
IMPORTANT
These tips are NOT intended for use
with
violent men.
In this section,
I present help for those who are
being continually
emotinally hurt in your marriage.

If your husband is
going overboard
with being mean,
prayerfully consider these suggestions.
Consider
sharing with your husband
the words in the following scenario
or similar words.
Check with God
to make sure these suggestions would help your marriage.
Before sharing with your husband -
remind yourself
of the following tips.
Be watchful that you keep a loving
tone of voice.
Make your words
as soft and gentle as they can be.
Speak slowly to help him process what you are saying.
Sitting together is best. Be sure not to stand over him as he sits.
Be on the same level.
Consider writing out what you are going to say and sticking to it.
If
you add something spontaneous,
you
will probably add
finger-pointing accusations or unhelpful emotions.
Pray and ask God if it will be helpful to give him the paper
when you are finished
so he can review it.
Important Note:
Pick a time
that you think
is most probably the best time for success.
Soak your words and attitudes in prayer.
And begin with -
sweetheart, or honey, or whatever romantic name you call him.
In the words to a husband
written below
instead of saying "situation" you may want to say -
This health issue or this problem with your brother, or
this crisis at work, etc.
Honey,
I love you.
I realize that this situation is very difficult for you.
I want you to easily see my love and support during this time.
I want us to be strong and united.
I need your help.
Without your help,
I will struggle and probably make things worse.
I struggle to be a great wife for you
when I feel unloved.
I feel unloved when you speak in a certain tone
and say
rough things to me.
I feel rejected.
When I feel rejected, I struggle to be the best wife I can be.
I regret it when I
allow
my emotions to push me
into
self - centeredness and sometimes anger.
Please forgive me for those things.
I am working on myself.
I sure could use your help.
Fighting unwanted emotions
makes it harder
for me
to be
the
supportive wife I want to be.
You are an Amazing man and I love you dearly.
I want to be an Amazing wife for you.
Would you give me a hug, and would you help me in this area? "
-
Even if
he does not react like you want him to,
keep calm
and
do not have a meltdown.
DO NOT participate in an argument!
LEAVE the room!
If
he reacts negatively,
nicely say,
"Right now, the best thing
I can do
is calm things down by
getting busy in the other room."
Then nicely leave the room
and go pray for him.
A little further down
I will post a prayer for you to consider praying
right after you talk to your husband.

First - I want to emphasize -
A calm reaction
will get you more success
than blowing up with anger and hurt.
Right NOW -
let God
work on him as he thinks about your words.
If you blow up,
your
husband
will focus
on your anger
and not
on the logic and rightness of your words.
Remind Yourself -
The person who is closest to God
will be the person
God will most often use
to be the most mature in a situation.
Show your maturity - be calm and kind.

Sample Prayer
Father God,
My husband has just heard some words
that were hard for him to hear.
Hearing these things
has made him feel bad about himself.
He may even feel
embarrassment or shame.
He probably feels like a failure
and
he is probably overwhelmed
with discouragement,
tiredness,
and -
confusion on how to handle things with me.
I will intentionally
lay down my self-centeredness and pick up maturity.
I pray that you will whisper wise thoughts to him.
I pray that you will lead him to a path
where he can
live out
being the great husband that you are calling him to be.
He needs to receive
your help.
He needs me to be loving.
Remind him of my love and of your love.
Remind me
to focus on the vital role I play in all of this.
Remind me to be strong and to not make this situation
all about my feelings
but help me
to focus on my husband's feeling of failure and embarrassment
and
to focus on how I can be his best friend.
Help me to respond
to any kind gesture by him
with
warmth and cheerfulness.
I pray in the strong name of my Mentor and Savior
Jesus Christ,
Amen

The Full Armor is found in
Ephesians chapter 6
verses 10 - 18.

If your marriage is struggling,
and even if it isn't
watch some insightful movies
such as
Fireproof.
Do NOT watch this WITH your husband.
This movie
gives a step - by - step guide
to healing a
hurting marriage.
There is even a book that comes with it that you can buy.
Also check out the Kevin Sorbo movie - "What if " - but watch it alone - not with your husband. Notice how the wife handles a cold husband.

Note
During appropriate times,
genuinely thank your husband
when he is kind during periods of stress for him.
Be his cheerleader.
Be the enthusiastic > President of His Fan Club.
Even thank him
for times he is nice without feeling stressed!
Be a little overboard in genuine compliments -
if
you can see that
he is being nourished by your words.
See our
Amazing
DISC personality styles
insights & tips
further down the page.

Examples of
HOW to start giving more compliments
" Honey,
the other day when you were so awesome and so gentle to me,
I left the room thinking
about
all the things I love about you
and
how wonderful you made me feel.
I should have said something then.
God has been convicting me
that
I need to share with you
the
awesome compliments I give you in my thoughts. "

Celebrate
what you want
more of.
Pro - Tip
Use the phrase
"Would you" or "Will you"
instead of
"Can you."
"Can you" is more irritating to men.
I understood
that
when someone pointed out -
How would you like
for your husband
to ask,
"Can you marry me?"

This next tip
might be
a
helpful tip
for marriages
that are already strong.
A tip that I learned along the way
IS...
Nicely ask your husband
to confirm or deny thoughts in your head
that are upsetting you.
First Example
I'll use an example that many women experience -
which is .....
insecurity
about their husband's love.
"Honey, I keep having thoughts that you do not love me and that
you do not care about me.
I try to stop them by saying they are lies
but it would help me and strengthen me
if you re-assure me.
Do you
still love me and care about me?"
If he reacts nicely -
Celebrate his words of love
no matter if they are not perfectly said.
If his reaction upsets you -
Even if
he does not react like you want him to,
keep your cool
and
do not have a meltdown.
Consider saying something like the following 2 suggestions.
1.
If he ignores you -
nicely say,
"The best thing I can do is give you some time to
think about what I just said.
I'll go into the kitchen
and
make something
yummy that you like. "
2.
If he gets angry with you -
nicely say
something like -
"Things are getting heated. I do not want to stir up anger.
I will give you some space."
And then nicely leave the room.
God can use your loving calmness to begin to
penetrate his hard heart.
TAKE NOTE:
A calm reaction
will get you more success
than blowing up with anger and hurt.
NOW
that you have spoken to him -
let God
work on him
as he thinks about your words.

If you blow up,
your husband
will focus
on your anger
and not
on the logic and rightness of your words.
I have another example that includes
blaming your negative thoughts on the devil.
That helped
me and my husband.
That example is at the bottom of the page.

Next Example
for your prayerful consideration
"Honey, I keep thinking that you are mad at me about something.
Those thoughts are stirring upset emotions in me.
Are you mad?"
(Accept his words no matter if they are not perfectly said.)
If he IS mad -
Consider
saying,
"I definitely want to be supportive.
We can work anything out.
Are you mad at something concerning me or something else? "
Do not try to make him tell you what it is - if it is something else.
Instead, tell him,
"I am ok if you do not want to tell me more.
I want to give you space.
If you do not mind,
I would like an opportunity later
to listen to you and speak words of support to you."
If he IS mad at you,
start praying that you do not over-react.
Try to listen calmly.
If you get mad at what he said -
then say to him,
"I am glad that you shared with me.
I do not want you mad at me.
I need time to think about what you said."
If you are NOT mad at what he said -
Consider saying something like,
"Oh Honey, I am sorry that I such and such.
I was not thinking clearly.
I do not want to damage our relationship.
Please forgive me.
I love you.
Thank you for sharing."

Be an AMAZING spouse
even before
you have an AMAZING spouse.
Helpful Prayer
God,
Show me the right words
and actions
to bring
calmness and godly wisdom
into this situation.
Amen

What about
crying ?
The video below
has
Great ideas
for when you find yourself crying
during a difficult discussion.
Heroic Husbands

"My Hero"
Take note:
Husbands want to a hero to their wife.
Do things to make that happen.
Notice
heroic things your husband does.
Do not make being a hero - hard or impossible.
Heroic things
are
being kind in a difficult situation
or
holding the door for you
or
coming to your rescue in any way in any situation.
Build him up.
Do not make "pleasing you" a difficult task.
And remember:
It is not difficult or impressive
to
tear down your husband.
It shows
more about
who you are than who he is.

Personality Styles
The DISC Personality Styles.
I am an expert in DISC.
I encourage you to visit my page
that explains DISC.
Next is a quick overview....
There are 4 main personality styles.
D
I
S
C.

NOTE:
We are a blend of traits from the four personality styles.
The top 2 styles
that have most of your traits
are both
very influencial in your words and actions.
Take note
of
both
your husband's top style
and
his
second highest style as well.

"D" people are
outgoing and task - oriented.
The "D" styles need compliments the least
of any style.
And they are usually not good at giving compliments.
They are also the people
who naturally
have the hardest heart.
They are usually hard on others and easy on themselves.
They need to allow God to soften their heart.
They need to value gentleness.
PRAY for that.

Gentleness is one of the Fruit of the Spirit
found in Galatians 5.

Here is a great Bible verse from
King David -
who was a great warrior and leader.
In speaking to God
he says -
" Your gentleness has made me great. "
Psalm 18:35 b

Even though your husband is probably
much less gentle
than you,
wisdom says to
work on YOUR gentleness
in all areas of your life,
while asking God to work on your husband's
gentleness.
And note:
Dealing with a hard husband
can bring out or increase
the hardness in the heart of a wife.
Work with God against that tendency.

If you have a "D" husband,
you really need to learn DISC
for increasing your marital happiness.
My Praying for your Child book
is still available on Amazon.
And it not only helps you understand your child -
it helps you
understand all people.

If
your husband begins to
understand
that his actions and words are producing
negative results,
he may decide to soften.
"Ds" focus on results.
It is hard for "Ds" to accept
that most people think differently about things
from the way
they do.
Unless you are a "D",
your husband's mind will work VERY differently
from your mind.

> > > > ENCOURAGEMENT < < < <
Here is some Encouragement:
Paul - who wrote most of the New Testament -
appears to be a "D".
He was harsh, cold, and demanding. He was killing Christians! Yet,
in God's guiding hands,
he was the one who wrote the Love Chapter -
1 Corinthians chapter 13.
Reading that chapter
daily
in multiple translations
can improve your marriage.
I love the scene
in the Kevin Sorbo movie
"What if"
where
the wife and husband
read that chapter together.
It
heals their marriage.

"I" people are
outgoing and people - oriented.
"I" men are VERY feeling oriented.
The "I" style needs compliments and encouragement
MORE
than the other styles.
If you are married to an "I"
it is vital
that you learn to be an encourager
if
you want an awesome marriage.
They thrive in a marriage where their spouse learns to use
compliments as motivation - and in a marriage where
their spouse
lovingly and gently and perhaps flirtacously
remind them of things.
THEY are usually VERY forgetful.
Do not disrespect them for their weakness.
For example,
you can say in a flirty way,
"Handsome love of my life,
do not forget to stop by the grocery store
on the way home.
Hey, would you like for me
to make a sexy call to you on your way home
and during my flirting - I remind you?"

Learn to flirt with your husband.

Consider texting him compliments.
Consider leaving a romantic note in his car or coat pocket.
Check out our romance pages - Here
Make things fun with your "I" husband.
Not only will it bless him
but it will propel you
into fun and bless you!

"S" people are
reserved and people - oriented.
The "S" style needs support.
They need calmness and gentleness.
They desperately want peace and lack of conflict in their life.
They usually shut down during stress or conflict.
They are hungry for kindness from you.
They usually respond well to being told,
"I appreciate you."
They sometimes become
passive aggressive
when under stress.
They usually love the words "team" "harmony" "kindness" "help" "appreciation," and "peace."
Tell them you want to be a team where he feels your support.
Tell him that you appreciate him.
The "S" style often get embarrassed easily.
So,
unless you also see a lot of "I" style in him,
give him
compliments in private - not in front of people.
The " S " section continues below.

An "S" husband
usually likes to follow -
not lead.
That desire to follow can result in
him
allowing you
to mow over him
if that is your desire.
He hates conflict and most likely will
quietly allow you
to disrespect him.
Yet -
being disrespected will probably result
in him
feeling more and more negative about his marriage.
He may even get passive aggressive.
Being disrespectful is sinful and it damages your marriage.
God tells us to respect our husband.
Let me be clear.
A woman
who likes to lead
married to an "S" man
who likes to follow
will
naturally
and
harmoniously
create
a marriage
where
she is making a majority of the decisions.
That is fine.
But it must be with his blessing
in order
to have a godly marriage.
He must KNOW that he CAN overrule you
if he wants to -
AND -
that you will react to being overruled
with
gentleness, respect, and submission.
( And given the freedom - he will overrule you sometimes. )

Note:
Never
put your husband down
in front of other people - including
your children.
That is sinful.
Repent and change.

When your "S" husband hurts you,
if
you need to say something,
here is an example.
"Sweetheart, I love you.
And I love your big, tender heart toward me.
I know that
you do not want to hurt me.
I know you
try hard not to hurt me.
The other day when you forgot such and such
( or you said or did such and such) -
it
made me feel
that you are not in love with me anymore.
It would help me and bless me
if you would give me a hug
and
tell me that you love me."

" C " people are
reserved and task - oriented.
"C" style people
usually focus on accuracy and react badly to dishonesty.
They deal in facts and logic.
They are not as feeling-oriented as the "S" and "I" styles.
Many "C" husbands
have a hard time relating to feelings.
"C" husbands
are usually more moved by logic than emotion.

It is not unusual
for "C" style people to react with suspicion.
"Cs" might react with suspicion
when they see a change in you.
For example
If you decide to start giving compliments,
they may react with suspicion.
Yet
most "C" men need some compliments.
To help them understand a recent change,
tell them
something like,
"God has convicted me
that
I have not been complimenting you.
You are wonderful,
and
I notice
you being
wonderful
all the time.
I want to change - and more often tell you
how wonderful you are."

Your best approach with "Cs" is logic.
When you need to address a marital issue,
sit down and think through your thoughts and feelings
before
presenting them logically to your "C" husband.
If your husband is too cold or harsh,
logically explain
how
coldness
affects
you
and that it
hinders your ability to be the best wife you can be.
"Honey, I know it would be great if my emotions did not
affect me as much as they do.
But myself and many woman
are wired so that our emotions have a big impact on us.
Uplifting emotions motivate me to be a great wife.
Sad and hurt emotions tempt me to get hurt or angry.
I need your help.
Helping me in this area,
will strengthen me so I can be an Amazing wife for you. "
Note:
Do not make "pleasing you" hard.

Tell him that you are eager to make a great team together
that produces an excellent marriage.
"Cs" usually like the words
"excellent" "perfect" and "flawless."
Example:
"The other day when you said such and such -
that was a perfect way
to support me and make me feel loved."
"Cs" like being
shown respect
for tasks and topics that
they excel in.

Great Movie
called -
What if?
with Kevin Sorbo
Do not watch this with your husband.
This is encouragement and insights for you.
Women who struggle with a
cold man
will be encouraged by this movie.
-
Pray before starting new strategies
to make your marriage better.
Give your husband
time to see the new you.
Pray and give God time to work.
Some of you will not see a difference in days or weeks -
but - give it time.
Most men will slowly move toward positive change.
If
your husband is truly hard and does not change....
Try getting strength
from my page for women
who feel
tolerated instead of celebrated,
forgotten instead of adored.
God can strengthen
you
while you continue to bless your husband.
God can teach
a
woman of God
how to be
a selfless servant who is joyful.
No matter
how young or old she is!

Note -
I call the devil and demons > the enemy of my soul.
Here is an example
of blaming negative thoughts on the devil.
"Honey, I keep thinking that you are angry with me.
I think the enemy of my soul
is telling me lies - such as - you are upset with me.
I think he is trying to get me to be upset.
Is that right?
Almost always, my husband says,
"No, I am not angry at all."
And
he gives me a hug.
He also uses this technique with me
when he thinks
unsettling thoughts concerning me.
Final Prayer
God,
I ask you to bless all my visitors.
Amen
