The 6 main prayers can be divided into
6 days.
The prayers build on one another.

All situations are unique.
Consider
taking out
of these prayers
what is not relevant
and
putting in what needs to be added.

Lord God,
I come before you
and
lay down at your feet - my pain.
I lay before you - my confusion.
I lay before you - my sadness.
My great love for my child
cries out for closeness
while
the
pain
I feel from
our fractured relationship
grows bigger and deeper.
Help me to take all my painful emotions
and put them at the foot of the cross.
Soothe me.
Guide my thoughts and my reactions.
I want to yield to you.
Amen

Short Prayer
Lord of Love,
Thank you for remembering
all
the acts of love
including all the sacrifices
that
I did for my child.
Sometimes it seems
like
those things have been forgotten.
Amen

Prayer 2
Heavenly Father,
I praise you
for your nurturing love and healing mercies.
Hear the depths of
my heart
as I come before you
and try to put my situation
into words.
My child is carrying hurt and anger
that my child says that I caused.
To help my relationship with my child,
I need to accept
the idea
that
my child's pain was caused or increased by me.
I am overwhelmed with emotions.
God,
thank you for saying that
you take all our tears and put them in your bottle.
And
I believe you even treasure the tears
that never made it down my face
but instead
dripped directly onto my aching heart.
Help me -
I do not understand the issues my child has with me.
Help me -
I do not understand the root of the coldness toward me.
Help me -
I do not know what to do to make things better.
And
my child
does not open up
in a way that brings clarity.
I do not understand
what I did
that caused this profound pain
in my child.
My mind and my emotions are tangled into knots.
Untangle me, Lord.
Amen

Tears - Psalm 56:8

Prayer 3
Heavenly Father,
I bow my head and my heart
before you.
I ache
at the dismissiveness and the distance
I get from my child.
I thought I did a pretty good job.
I tried to do better than my parents did.
I tried to meet the needs that my parents left unmet.
I know I messed up sometimes,
yet I thought I was doing a pretty good job.
But
my child reacts to me as though I totally failed.
Lord, the bottom line is -
my assignment from you
is
to be a good parent
and
my child thinks that I am not.
Where do I go from here?
My child
does not even want to talk to me about it.
How can I avoid future heart ache
for my child
if
I do not understand what caused the past heart ache?
Shepherd of my Soul,
help me.
Amen

Prayer 4
My Comforter and my Shepherd,
Thank you for
welcoming my prayers
and for understanding my emotions.
Thank you for affirming your love for me
in your Word
and
at the cross of sacrifice.
Thank you for reminding me
that you are able
to bring
me
wisdom and peace
as I seek you
and
take shelter in your continual love for me.
Today, Lord, I want to pray for my child.
I want to infuse my love
into
prayers for my child.
Help me to turn my focus away from myself
and onto my child.
Teach me how to pray for my child.
Teach me how to move forward with my child.
Please guide me to a place of humbleness.
I want to remove all pride in my heart.
I will focus on my child's pain.
I will not defend myself.
I will abandon
defensiveness.
I will not
defend
myself
by calling out
all
the acts of love
including all the sacrifices
that
I did for my child.
I need
to
instead,
humbly
focus
on my
parental weaknesses
and
learn to give comfort
to my child through prayers.
Today I pray -
that you would minister
to
my child
in the day and in the night
so that
my child will receive
emotional healing
and
so that
my child
will be drawn
to grow closer to you.
In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen

Prayer 6
This prayer is written twice.
Prayer one is for a daughter.
Prayer two is for a son.

Prayer one - for a daughter.
Dear Lord,
Bless my daughter.
Heal my child from past emotional hurts, wounds, and pains.
Where she needs to process past events,
help her to process past events.
Where she needs certain words to help her process,
give her certain words from you.
Where she needs understanding
of
how much you love her,
give
her
understanding.
Where she needs a friend, give her a good godly friend.
Where she needs
such and such,
give her such and such.
I pray that she will clearly hear your voice today,
and that
she will steadfastly follow you.
Thank you for steering her with your
protective
love and guidance.
Thank you for everything you are doing
to encourage her and help her.
You created her to do amazing things as she follows her amazing Savior.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen

Short Prayer
Short Prayer to pray often -
Lord,
I ask you to
minister
to
the hurts and pains of my child.
Amen
I was watching a video and it gave some interesting advice
about adult children who give quick verbal attacks.
Some adult children
will
- out of the blue -
verbally attack a parent
about a past event.
And when
the parent tries to use the time for a conversation,
the child then gives a quick response
and
totally shuts down.
In the few moments as your child is shutting down,
prayerfully consider answering
in a humble tone -
"Yes, I did that."
A simple answer and change the subject.
Do not get defensive.
Or
prayerfully consider
calmly and gently saying
some or all of the following,
"Yes, I did that.
What am I missing?
You bring this up over and over.
What am I missing about how this affected you?
What would it look like for me to gain your trust?
What would it look like for me to be the kind of mom you want?"
And then listen carefully to ANY response.
Do not start an argument.
Do not get defensive.
Just listen.
Just try to learn something about the root of your child's pain.
Anything they answer in anger
that could be informational,
consider saying,
"Thank you for sharing."

"That makes sense."
The phrase
"that makes sense"
is usually a good response
to say when your child shares
his or her
hurt and anger.
Note that
you need to say the phrase honestly.
It comes from
intentionally seeing things
from your child's perspective -
instead of
your perspective.
As we understand an adult child's pain,
we can
understand
more and more
WHY
what he or she is feeling and saying
makes
sense.

This song addresses hurting
in a
gentle, comforting way.
-
There are times to pray
and times to sit quietly with God
crying -
either inwardly or outwardly.
This song
may or may not
apply to your situation.
I am praying for you.
