Psalm 123

A Psalm for Christians

Living in a

Hostile World

Let's be honest with ourselves -

The world we live in

is often Hostile toward

and those who love Jesus.

Psalm 123

speaks of

the contempt

that comes against believers.

Psalm 123 is just 4 verses

Psalm 123 KJV

Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

3 Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

that will

Strengthen and Encourage

Prepare us to be faithful to you

every day.

Teach us to love like you love.

God's Word teaches us to say:

Bless me with life so that I can

continue to obey you.

Open my eyes to see wonderful things

in your Word.

I am but a pilgrim here on earth:

how I need a map -

and your commands are my chart and guide.

I long for your instructions

more than I can tell.

Psalm 119:17-20 TLB

Psalm 123

Psalm 123 NIV

The NIV translation has chosen some words

that can help us get in touch

with the emotions

we sometimes battle.

I lift up my eyes to you,

to you who sit enthroned in heaven.

2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,

as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress,

so our eyes look to the Lord our God,

till he shows us his mercy.

3 Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,

for we have endured no end of contempt.

4 We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant,

    of contempt from the proud.
