Prayer for -

Children who

have trouble saying No to bad ideas

This prayer is written for a boy.

Please adapt for a girl.

My Father,

You give good gifts to us.
You see that
we are given pleasant brooks and meadows as our share.
We rest in the pasture of your love.

You enjoy saying "Yes" to our wants and desires.

You say  yes  every time it is the right thing to do,
but
you also model saying no.

My child has such a hard time saying no.

Help him to hear your voice more clearly
in the times
he needs to say no.

May he possess the understanding and ability
to
respond to others wisely.

May his emotions gently move
to
rest under your will.

Thank you for your nurturing love.

Help your child

to understand

appropropriate   and   inappropriate times

to say no. 

Make sure your child knows

the difference

between

saying no in disobedience

and

saying no to

an opinion question.

Encourage your child to come to you and share

when

he has appropriately said no.

Let him know that

you will

be his encourager

and

that

you will

lovingly and gently coach him in this area.

Prayer for -

Children who

worry

This prayer is written for a boy.

Please adapt for a girl.

Magnificent Creator,

I am filled with wonder

as

I contemplate

how

glorious you are.

You spoke, and the world appeared.

Your words change things.

Lord, worry is hurting my child.

My heart aches to see him so weighed down with burdens.

If
he
could only see
how small his problems are
and
how big you are,
he would be at peace.

But
I can look at my own life and see that I, too,
magnify
my problems
and
minimize your ability.

I pray that my child will grow
to
understand that
all the questions in the world have their answer in you.

And all the problems have their solution in you.

The answer to every situation is to trust you.

Help me to rest in that truth
and
express
that truth
in
words and deeds,
so that
I may give you glory,
and
so that
my child can benefit from my example.

You are great and powerful.

All your promises prove true.

Help me to learn to present you to my child
in
your magnificence and might.

I will recognize and shatter
any
confining box that I have put you in.

My words will not diminish or deny your power.

My words will proclaim your power.

My words will be used to build the faith of my child in you.

When your child is worried,

stop and pray with him.

In that prayer,

display your confidence that God will take care of the situation.

Reading the Bible

to your child

will reduce your child's worrying

and

will cause his faith and peace to grow.

For

older children and teens - 

pay them to read the Bible. 

YES - PAY them.

And

when they finish a book of the Bible or a section of the Bible,

go over some points in that book or section

with them.

Interact with them about what they read.

Perhaps point out your favorite verses in that section of the Bible.

Prayer for -

Children

who

have a strong desire to control and lead

This prayer is written for a boy.

Please adapt for a girl.

Almighty God,

 I will give thanks to you
for
all the great things you have done for me.

You have blessed my life with good things.
You are worthy to be praised.

Thank you for giving me my child.

What an incredible destiny you have planned for my child.

You have ordained that my child be given
influential leadership positions
during his life.

You have chosen him for these positions
and
you are preparing him.

You will accomplish great things through my child.

Thank you that he is learning to put his confidence in you.

He will learn to love your Word. 

Your Word will be seated in prominence and authority
in his heart
as
he grows into adulthood.

Your firm hand will guide him
to become
the great leader as you intend him to be. 

Jesus -

You were the greatest leader in history.

You washed the feet of your disciples.

Lord,
teach my child
to be
willing
to wash the feet of those you send him to lead.

Be sure and emphasize the trait of KINDNESS to your child.

Emphasize how important KINDNESS is.

Your child is very goal - oriented.

He or she can easily

run over people while trying to achieve

goals and desires.

Wise leaders

know their job is to be a servant.

Wise leaders earn the respect and loyalty of those they lead.

Share with your child

that the strong urge to lead

that he feels,

comes from God.

Yet

he must yield to God

in order to be a good leader.

Emphasize the need to grow in compassion for others.

For older children and teens...

Emphasize

 - and often read together - 

1 Corinthians 13

which is called "the love chapter."

When it is age appropriate, share that -

A leader who does not have compassion and love
will grow to be
a mean and bitter person that people will not respect.

This prayer is written for a boy.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I praise you

Lord,

for you generously bestow wisdom

on those who seek you.

Your

every word

is a treasure of knowledge and understanding.

You grant good sense to the godly.

You are our shield,

protecting us and guarding our pathway.

You show us how to distinguish right and wrong,

and

how to find the right decision every time.

Lord,

help me to appreciate in more depth

the difficulties that my child has in making decisions.

Thank you that you are guiding me

to be more understanding.

Mold me into a person

that gives grace

more generously and one who focuses on the best in others.

Thank you

that you are preparing my child for blessings.

Thank you that you are developing

his boldness and confidence,

so that

when he comes to an important fork in the road,

he will

hear your voice of wisdom and peace,

and

he will obey you.

Notice

when

your child is attempting to make a difficult decision.

Come alongside and help your child

to think through

in a godly way

his choices.

Consider

encouraging him

to write down his choices

and

write the pros and cons of each choice. 

Many children are indecisive

because they are afraid of making a mistake.

Explain to your child

that it is wise to want to make good decisions

but even

when we try to make good decisions,

we will sometimes make mistakes.

And

tell your child that

when he makes a mistake,

you will

still love him just the same as you always have.

Emphasize

Reading the Bible.

For

older children and teens - 

pay them to read the Bible.
