Beginning Hebraic Dance

Here are helps for those who want to be a Dance Leader.


(CW-move to the left - clockwise in a circle, L-left foot, R-right foot)

  • Mayim (mah’-yeem) to the Left (4 counts): Moving to the Left (CW), R steps across in front of L, L steps to the left side, R steps behind L,
    L steps to the side.
  • Tcherkessia (ter-kuh-see’-yah) (4 counts): Step R forward, lift L and place L back in place, step R backward, lift L and place L back in place. Note: Lift arms on first count, then lower arms on other 3 counts.
  • Coupe (koo-pay’) to the Left (3 counts): R crosses in front of L with a bow, placing weight on R, L steps in place, R steps back to join L (Note: Left hand behind back, R hand follows R foot as it crosses)
  • Coupe to the Right (3 counts):L crosses in front of R with a bow, placing weight on L, R steps in place, L steps to right side joining R. (Note: R hand behind back, L hand follows L foot as it crosses)
  • 3-point Turn (4 counts): R steps to the right & pivots CW 180° to face backward, L steps to the left & pivots CW 180° to face forward

Steps (In a circle, CW, holding hands) 4 Mayim steps: Moving to the Left, R steps across in front of L, L steps to the left side, R steps behind L, L steps to the side Walk forward 4 steps (lift hands) Walk back 4 steps (lower hands) 4-pt turn to the right with hands praising & 2 extra 4-point turns at the end
