We just finished a two-week Daily Inspirational study about Running the Race taken from Hebrews 12:1-2.

Hearing the Voice of God

Everyone wants to be better at something. I want to be better at Hearing from God. I suspect many of you do, too!

In this edition of the Inspirational Life, I am going to give some tips on Hearing from God when making decisions.

Over the years, I have come up with a list of tips that help me to make godly decisions. Many of my tips come in the form of questions that I ask myself.

Here are a few of them:

* What does God’s Word say about this decision?

* Is this decision wise or unwise?

* What is the right thing to do?

* Is fear pulling me in a certain direction?

The devil, and his demonic kingdom, use fear to keep us from doing God’s will. So if I feel fear about doing something, I ask myself, “Is ungodly fear pushing me to make a certain decision?”

* Is someone pressuring me to do something, and that “something” is not godly?

I am to follow God not man.

* Have I explored my options?

Many times I will realize the right decision after I investigate the options.

* Is someone pressuring me to decide quickly?

I don’t want to let people pressure me into making an important decision quickly.

* What are my internal conversations saying about the situation?

As I listen to my internal conversations, I sometimes hear, “I should do ______, but I want to _______."

For example: "I should study tonight, but I want to go to the mall. ”

If I am saying that, then I actually know the right decision. I just need to encourage myself to make the right decision.

* In the future, what will I wish I had done?

My fleshly desires really don’t care about tomorrow. They only care about today. So this question sometimes sheds great light on the correct decision.

* And if all else fails and I continue to have a hard time deciding what God wants, I ask myself, “What would make the devil happier?”

Sometimes that really clears things up for me.
