July 4th Prayer

Father,

I come to this July 4th, grateful for my country and grateful for the men and women who gave their lives so that I might be free.

I proclaim my allegiance to my country and total dedication to you, my Lord.

As I watch the magnificent explosions of color on this red, white, and blue holiday, I am reminded of my spectacular Lord and Savior who is great beyond my imagination.

May the name of the Lord be praised and celebrated throughout our country on this our joyous national holiday!

Amen

to go with our July 4th Prayer.

Gaining understanding through Creation

“The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;

night after night they display knowledge.

There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.

Their voice goes out into all the earth,

their words to the ends of the world.”

Psalm 19:1-4 NIV

The Evening of July 6

Last night I stumbled into a lightning bug convention held on my street.

Since it was the day after July 4 th, I wondered if they were inspired to compete with the fireworks of the day before.

The floating sparks weren’t as spectacular as the colorful streamers of Independence, but their simplicity gained my attention just as easily.

Again and again, I watched as the gentle globes gathered together and then dispersed.

Everywhere I looked, lights were blinking.

They were always on the move.

Action – oriented and yet reserved.

They were too shy to come near me, yet I still felt welcome.

No motivational speakers, no Power Point presentations, yet they captured my interest as no meeting has done before.

Their messages were clear:

* Relax. Enjoy the journey of life.

* Float together sometimes.

* Float alone sometimes.

* Be gentle.

* Let your light shine.

The Silence of Nature contains beautiful meaning.

Revelations in Nature

God has placed lessons in our everyday life that teach us new things or remind us of important things.

Just as I stumbled into the lightning bug lessons, so you too are witnesses each day to insights from God’s creation.

Asking the Lord to nudge us when we are in the midst of a heavenly revelation helps prepare us to be aware and watchful.
